The Grand Parade (Chirttarath)
The heart of Shigmo is undoubtedly the magnificent float parade that depicted the scene of Ramayan, Mahabharat, Hindu and Goan culture. The float parade rode in the streets of the goa’s villages where cheers, and traditional dance. The performances performed by the Local Artists and Actors of Goa attract tourists. Their costumes are immensely beautiful and vibrant. To prepare the Grand Parade, artisans spend months preparing and designing the splendid Tableu.

Folk Dances and Music
The streets come alive with the rhythmic beats of traditional drums and the graceful movements of folk dancers. You can’t miss the traditional dances, like Rommatamel, Fugdi & Dhalo, Goff Dance, Ghode Morni and my favourite Veerbhadra Dance. In the folk-dance performances, they use, traditional instruments, dhol, tasha, cymbals, and shehnai and actors performed in traditional beats. These performances are held in the parade routes only. Be prepared to tap your feet and maybe even join in the fun!

Gulal Play or “Gulalotsav”
In North India, we play with colours in Holi, and in Goa, you administer this in Shigmo Festival. The air filled with rainbow and the people playfully through “gulal” to celebrate the occasion. You can enjoy Gulalotsav with the folk dance, when locals are engaged with the dancers and celebrate this joyous festival. To play Gulalotsav, you can visit temples, where locals offer colour to the deities, then everyone enjoys the temple courtyard. You can also visit the villages, Ponda, Quepem, and Sanguem to celebrate the festival.

What to Wear (and Pack!) for Shigmo Festival
As I mentioned above, the festival celebrates spring and a warm goodbye to winter. So, the weather in March would be a bit warm, so pack light, comfortable clothing. You may wear cotton fabrics, loose fitting clothing, and citing a lot of walking in the streets, a comfortable pair of footwear.
Don’t forget the Gulalotsav, so bring a pair of T-shirts which you wear at home. If you love your skin, carry sunglasses and sunscreen.
Where to Stay for Shigmo Festival

- By Air: Dabolim Airport (GOI), from here you can take a local taxi to reach the hotel.
- By Rail: The major railway stations located in Margao, Vasco da Gama, and Thivim. You can choose as per the festival location and what suits you best.
- By Road: If you’re traveling by road, Goa is accessible via National Highways NH66 and NH48.
