Travelling in hilly areas in the monsoon poses a risk of landslides or flooding. In the coastal areas, poor weather or thunder may affect your travel. If you are planning to travel in the monsoon, travel hacks for safe and smooth travel are essential.

Waterproof Gear and Footwear

The weather is unpredictable in some areas, so pack waterproof gear, an umbrella, a raincoat, and a clothesline. Having a grip on slippery areas helps you from falling. Choose grip or anti-slip shoes with studs, gumboots, or rubber sandals. Don’t forget to bring extra socks and undergarments. These essentials help you to stay dry in the monsoon season and be comfortable. If you have a dryer, it’s good, as it helps with clammy conditions.

Gadgets Protection

Your mobile device and camera are very precious, and to protect them from damage, consider carrying waterproof covers or dry pouches. In case of emergency, carry a power bank and adapter.

First-Aid Kit and Insect Protection

The most important item to pack is a first-aid kit, regardless of the season. In the kit, keep bandages, antiseptics, ointments, and basic medicines for cold, cough, fever, and nausea. If trekking is part of your trip, then wear proper gear to protect yourself from leech bites. In case of leech bites, avoid fire and apply salt to remove leeches. Monsoon increases malaria and dengue; use Odomos cream, repellents, and nets. Be particular with food choices in the monsoon; avoid street food and oily food. Drink boiled water or bottled water and avoid regular water.

Offline Maps

Google Maps is good and even helpful on trips, but not in poor weather and network. For emergencies, an offline map is a must for a smooth journey. Check weather forecasts through newspapers, radio, phones, or any local contacts. Keep or remember emergency contact numbers.

Payment Mode

In hilly areas, coastal areas, or in poor weather conditions, network conditions are worse. In such cases, UPI or card payment won’t work properly. For any such situation, keep cash and avoid hindrance in your journey.

Travel Insurance

The journey should be safe and sound, but uncertainties are unpredictable. For long-distance travel, travel insurance is a must. Accidents or uncertain conditions affect your journey, so for such scenarios, take travel insurance. If you are travelling by road, then car insurance and the customer care number of your respective car company should be important.

Respects Locals & Culture

To make your trip beautiful, respect locals and their culture. Avoid littering waste, plastics, and keep a garbage bag with you. For an authentic experience, try local dishes; I assure you, it will be mouthwatering.
