If you are staying and Delhi-NCR, then trains are available from Gurgaon to Jodhpur which ply morning at 8:00 am and drop you at 4:30 pm. If you plan a trip in monsoon season, then don’t miss the beauty of train journey. This train journey will surely change your perspective for Rajasthan.
DAY 1 – Jodhpur
Ghanta Ghar
We reached Jodhpur Railway Station around 4:30 pm and we had our beautiful evening in the bright city of Jodhpur. After freshening-up you take a tour to “Ghanta Ghar” for shopping. At the market you can buy Rajasthani dresses, fancy bellies “Juti”, and buy souvenirs for dear ones. If you want to buy clothes, then go for lehariya print, bandhej and kantha work which is famous in Jodhpur. Jodhpur is famous for the designer “Laakh Bangles”, and you can customize the bangles as per your choice and size.
Day 2 – Jodhpur
Start your next day with a heavy breakfast because you need lots and lots of energy for sightseeing. You can book a cab for the whole day which costs you around Rs. 4000/- for a day and drives you to the whole city. Let’s begin our journey………….
Kaylana Lake
The beautiful and charismatic Kaylana Lake is an artificial lake made in the 18th century. If you are nature lover, then it’s a paradise for nature enthusiasts and birdwatcher. You can sit here and watch nature’s beauty as the lake is surrounded by the wetlands which attract tourists. For the birds and avian species, Kaylana Lake is the prime spot which enhances the beauty of this lake. Kaylana Lake is on the outskirts of Jodhpur, but it’s a must visit place.
Umaid Bhawan
The second place of Day 2 visit is Umaid Bhawan, which is named after Maharaj Umaid Singh. The palace was built in the 19th century and golden yellow sandstone was used to build this beautiful monument.
The Umaid Bhawan Palace is divided into three parts, at one part of the palace, the King resides. The other part is transformed into museum for the tourist and the rest of the part is rehabilitated into Luxury Hotel. The famous celebrities conducted their marriages in this historical Palace – Umaid Bhawan.
There is a huge garden which is well maintained, and you can take a glance of beautiful peacocks. If you are fond of cars, then you can take a look at the Vintage Car collection.

Jaswant Thada
After exploring the Palace, head towards a memorial built in the memory of Maharaja Jaswant Singhjill in the end18th century and the beginning of 19th century. The monument is also known as “Taj Mahal of Marwar”. In Jaswant Thada, you will know more about the history of Marwar, and in the morning, you can attend the concerts which basically commenced in winters. Nowadays, various movie shootings are happening at this famous monument like Bollywood movie “Hum Sath Sath hai”.

Mehrangarh Fort
After exploring the monuments and historical places, you need energy to explore the other places. You can take Rajasthani Lunch and then head towards Historic Mehrangarh Fort. This splendid palace stands on a cliff and after seeing the height of the palace it seems the fort is above the skyline.
At the Museum you will witness the paintings, arts & furniture, arms & armours of 17th, 18th & 19th centuries. The museum has six galleries to display the collections and has seven period rooms.From the top of Mehrangarh Fort, you can see the beauty of Jodhpur’s famous “Blue City”.

Jodhpur’s Blue City
After exploring the historic Mehrangarh Fort, you can explore the famous Blue City where all the houses and streets are painted in Indigo colour. You can hire auto from this fort which take around 100/- or 200/- rupees and provide both pick-up and drop service. You can explore this year-old city and explore the famous shops, bazaars, taste the Rajasthani cuisine, and click as many photographs as you want.
Day 3 – Jodhpur
Time to say Goodbye to Jodhpur. On the last day of your trip wake up late in the morning, have your breakfast in the streets of Jodhpur. If you think you missed something and want to buy some stuff, then enjoy the marketing. After that head towards railway station/airport and back to your daily busy routine life.
Best Time to Visit Jodhpur
The two best season to explore the Sun City/Blue City Jodhpur are:
- Monsoon (August to September): The weather is pleasant, and you can experience a light rainfall in monsoon which turns the city into lush greenery.
- Winter (October to March): The ideal time to explore Jodhpur, and the weather is cold and comfortable with winter clothes. The skies are clear which is good for photography. In winter, Jodhpur organize events as well, like, Marwar Festival and Jodhpur Rajasthan International Folk Festival.
How to Reach Jodhpur
In the beginning of the blog, I had explained that if you are from Delhi-NCR you can reach Jodhpur via train. Here I’ll be explaining all the possibilities:
- By Air: Jodhpur Airport is the nearest airport and only 5km away from the city. The flights are well connected with major cities and local transport is readily available.
- By Train: Jodhpur Junction Railway Station is the nearest one and well connected with metro cities. If you want a luxurious train travelling, then visit in monsoon via; Palace on Wheels train which gives you royal feel.
- By Road: Jodhpur is well connected with National Highways – NH 62 and NH125. Volvo buses (deluxe and sleeper buses) are available the major cities. If you are from Delhi and Ahmedabad and fond of driving, you can enjoy the road trip.

If you have explored the mountains, then this time go for deserted city and experience the charismatic beauty.
